The European Commission distinguishes EES border registration from ETIAS pre-travel authorisation. The two names should not be treated as interchangeable requirements.

For travellers planning a journey to France, the useful starting point is the official information for their nationality and type of stay. A booking confirmation alone does not explain which procedure applies.

This distinction matters to the travel industry: clear instructions should identify the system being discussed, rather than referring vaguely to a new European travel permit.
